South Lakes High School

Branch constructed a two-level 38,959sf addition to the existing high school located in Reston, Virginia. The building, originally constructed in the 1970’s, and later expanded and extensively renovated in 2006/2007, is home to a rapidly growing, renowned International Baccalaureate program, which attracts students from throughout Fairfax County. The project adds 22 general classrooms and 5 laboratories with associated chemical storage and prep rooms, along with restroom facilities to ease overcrowding and allow for the removal of portable classrooms. Two of the sides of the addition connect to the existing facility, which necessitated that associated demolition and connections to existing mechanical and electrical systems be performed during session breaks, along with remedial finish work to minimize disruption to educational activities and provide a safe environment. Site improvements included modifications to existing drive aisles and additional parking.
