EMORY & HENRY COLLEGE
SCHOOL OF HEALTH SCIENCES

This was a collaborative design-build project with design partner, RRMM Architects, that represented the initial undertaking in the creation of Emory & Henry’s new Marion Campus. It involved comprehensive renovations that transformed the former Smyth County Hospital into a new state-of-the-art College of Health Sciences to house Emory & Henry College’s growing health sciences programs. This initial phase consisted of space for the college’s department of Physical Therapy. The work included complete upgrades to all mechanical/electrical/plumbing, technology and security systems in addition to reconfiguration of 75,000sf of space to meet the college’s needs. The renovations to this historic, circa 1965 structure required careful preconstruction planning to develop a design that maintains the historical integrity of the building while providing the needed modernization.

Selected by Virginia Living Magazine as one of Virginia’s top schools in the Science, Math & Technology category for their Master of physician assistant studies provided through the School of Health Sciences (2017)
