Fairfax County DPWES Awards

Branch and Associates received two 2017 Awards of Excellence from Fairfax County’s Department of Public Works and Environmental Services, Building Design and Building Construction Branch for recently completed public works projects.  The awards for the Tysons – Pimmit Library Renovation and the West Ox Bus Operations Center Phase II expansion were received during the department’s 11th annual recognition program for which they recognize contractors, design consultants, building officials and other partners for there work in successfully achieving financial, delivery and quality goals in support of there mission.  The success of the counties’ $3.1 billion capital program is dependent on the performance of its partners.

The Tyson’s Pimmit Library project was a $3.6 million renovation of the building requiring extensive interior demolition, replacement of the HVAC system, including ductwork, distribution, and controls, the electrical system has an upgraded service, new distribution wiring, and lighting, windows were replaced, an entry canopy was constructed along with exterior site improvements and all new interior finishes.  The library was closed for the duration of the project when completed the facility had upgraded information technology infrastructure, new furniture, fixtures, and equipment.  In addition to Branch’s recognition the project’s architect, Ritter Norton received an award of excellence.

The West Ox Bus Operations Center expansion was an $11.4 million project that provides maintenance bays for WMATA buses, parts, and tire storage expanded drivers and employee lounges along with additional parking spaces.  The building is a steel structure with a masonry façade and included hydraulic lifts, exhaust vent systems, an undercarriage wash system along with distribution systems for fluids and compressed air.  Due to the project’s importance, it received partial funding from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority.
